Week 8

Systems Synthesis: End-to-End Energy Budget

Tie it all together. Trade-studies. Whiteboard talk.

~5 hrs Whole facility NIF ↔ industrial process flow diagram

Stub. Full prose lives in STUDY_PLAN.md §Week 8.

Goals

  • Tie everything into a single power-flow diagram with every efficiency, every margin, every failure mode.
  • Be able to run a sustainment trade-study end-to-end.
  • Be able to explain NIF in a 5-minute whiteboard talk working only from fluid analogies and first principles.

Master equation

Etarget=ηwall \to1\omegaη1ω3ωηtransportη3ωXηXKEEwallE_\text{target} = \eta_\text{wall \to 1\omega} \cdot \eta_{1\omega \to 3\omega} \cdot \eta_\text{transport} \cdot \eta_{3\omega \to X} \cdot \eta_{X \to KE} \cdot E_\text{wall}

Each η\eta is a product of physics from one of the prior weeks.

Capstone deliverables

By the end of Week 8 you should have, in your own writing:

  1. A single-page NIF physics cheat sheet (the master equations from all 8 weeks).
  2. A single-page NIF fluid analogy map (extended Week 0 cheat sheet).
  3. A single-page end-to-end energy budget with current 2025 numbers and identified margins.

These three pages are your DPM working artifacts. Print them. Keep them on your desk.
